If you enjoy painting or creative work, using a sketchbook to doodle in, record thoughts and ideas is a very helpful tool in deciding what to paint. Sometimes the empty page is daunting or you may worry about spoiling something or a book that is going well. I have found keeping two or three books at a time helps me to find a theme and brings a calm feeling of progress. I suggest keeping a separate book for various ideas or projects.

So, I have a travel sketchbook, here I draw people, places and anything that attracts my attention. I sometimes write a note of my thoughts and impressions on the page. Recently I’ve been using pen and Indian Ink – waterproof. I can then put in a wash later. Alternatively you could use a waterproof fineliner pen. I like the line from a dip pen which is more expressive.
