I use Artists professional watercolour, as the pigments are more intense and permanent. If I am working on a large scale – I use tubes with pans – otherwise the double or single pans are very good. In England I have always used Winsor & Newton paints. When working in Spain – Van Gogh (Talens) Artists quality are also good.
I find its easier to work with either ‘rough’ or ‘NOT’ paper surfaces and I particularly like Arches 300g/m2. I also use Gvarro 240/m2 rough grain, which is made by Canson. I like Khadi handmade papers – they are very absorbent, but great for sketchbooks. The advantage in using a heavier paper is that it is not always necessary to stretch the paper.
